Wind Assistance to Propulsion Systems (WAPS)
Rationale
Wind for Assistance to Propulsion Systems (WAPS) gains traction in the shipping industry. Shipowners are puzzled to select the most appropriate device for their vessels and trade routes.
PROPELWIND proposes to shipowners the following stepwise approach :
- Step 1: a complete, fully up-to-date and detailed overview of all 48 wind propulsion devices identified; the report ends with a 15 suppliers short listed for the next investigation, Step 2.
- Step 2: a detailed quantitative technical and economical comparison of above shorlisted suppliers for a specific vessel; only the same essential information is required from suppliers using our standard Data Sheet.
- Step 3: based on the result from Step 2, the Shipowner will liaise directly with the 2 .. 3 shortlisted suppliers for firm offer and negotiations.
Wind Statistics
The Step 2-investigation uses wind statistics extracted from the vessel logbook, simplified to fit with the information received from suppliers in the completed Data Sheets.
So the statistics are more vessel – specific than the standard IMO Wind Matrix Wij, and more representative of all the vessel routes than 1 or 2 voyage specific wind statistics.
Dashboard
The Step 2 investigation provides a comparative evaluation of the fuel / emission saving and Pay-Back Period (PBP) for 6 short-listed devices.
The table is delivered to the Shipowner in native Excel format, allowing him to try different impacting values such as fuel price, carbon price, US$/EUR, days et sea, number of devices, .. and see immediately the resulting saving and PBP for all the devices.
