MARA - Solar Powered Inland / Coastal / Inter Island Cargo Vessel

Planette.be is developing the concept of a large cargo-catamaran vessel propelled by solar energy, with a roof completely covered with photovoltaic solar panels feeding the electric propulsion plant and batteries.It is designed for general cargo on pallets, ISO containers, light vehicles and passengers. On-board handling equipment allows to be autonomous, not requiring local harbor cranes to load / unload cargo.

The hulls structure is suitable for both inland- and coastal / inter island trades with benign weather conditions.

PROPELSEAS is considering 2 versions of MARA:

  • Coastal vessel, inter islands vessel rated at 1,000 dwt
  • Inland vessel rated at 250 dwt
